Wagener Terrace began development in the 1920’s on land that was originally part of a water front plantation owned by Fredrick Wagener. In 1917, James Sottile bought the plantation, turned much of land into residential lots, and named the neighborhood Wagener Terrace. Today the area is made up of single-family homes and is a true residential community. The neighborhood is ideal for young professionals and students, because of its low housing prices, in comparison to many of the other downtown areas. Nearby is the military college of South Carolina, known as The Citadel and the Charleston Riffle Club. Prices in Wagener Terrace typically range from $250,000 to $800,000, with the occasional waterfront home going for over $1 million.
