Sullivan’s Island Staycation

beach cottage 2

Sullivan’s Island Beach Cottage

Last week I had the opportunity to drive 10 minutes down the road and check into an oceanfront beach cottage on Sullivan’s Island for the week. Although it’s not much of a get away, it was still nice to wake up to ocean views each morning and watch the sunset in the evening.  The beach cottage I stayed in is located on the southern tip of the island with great views of Fort Sumter and downtown Charleston, and also in a perfect location to watch the big ships come and go from the Charleston Harbor. Over the week I took a few photos I wanted to share.

Sullivan's Island Boathouse

1) This is an old boathouse on the backside of the island. I don’t know the story behind it, but thought it would make a great photo.

Sullivan's Island Sunset

2) It was awesome watching the sunset each evening.  Every ship that went in and out of the Charleston Harbor had to go right past the house. The ships were so close you could almost touch them.

Sullivan's Island Hobbie Cat

3) Walking back to the beach cottage one evening I could’t help but notice these two Hobbie Cats.  With the sun starting to set I thought photographing them with the orange background would make a great photo. What do you think?

Dogs on Sullivan's Island Beach

4) Abby and Annie had more fun than anyone running on the beach!

Sullivan's Island Lighthouse

5) The Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse is the last major lighthouse to be built by the federal government.  The towers unique triangular shape allows it to take winds up to 125 mile per hour.

My brother did the best he could do with the small waves on the Island.  The setting and weather that day could not have been more perfect!

Third Quarter Comes to a Close – Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes, and Sullivan’s Island Market Report

Oceanfront Home on the Isle of PalmsWith the end of the third quarter, let’s take a look at how things fared in the areas of; the Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes, and Sullivan’s Island.  Overall, things continued on an upward trend like we saw at the end of the first half of the year.  Almost all areas experienced an increase in the number of properties sold and the price of the median sale.  These signs fall right in line with what we have seen in some of the primary markets like Historic Charleston, Mt. New Harris Teeter Location on the Isle of Palms Under Construction

In a turn of events it appears what was going to be a Newton Farms on the Isle of Palms is actually going to be a Harris Teeter.  This change is part of Harris Teeter acquiring six stores in Charleston County that are currently owned and operated by Piggly Wiggly.  Harris Teeter will also purchase two stores in Mount Pleasant, two stores on James Island, and the current Newton Farms on Kiawah Island.  Click here to read more.
