Fire in the Sky

One thing we aren’t short of here in Charleston is beautiful sunsets.  Every now and then though, we get one that is really special, or cool, or amazing, or however you want to put.  There seems to be a trend after a rain that you can expect what I call  the “fire in the sky” sunset, where just as the sun disappears for the day, you get this amazing array of colors that almost to like a painting, or something that just couldn’t be real.  Here  is one I shot the other day from the Harbor View Rd. Bridge that just simply has that “wow” factor!

Wild Dunes Regime Fee Update

Yacht HarborI just updated my site to reflect the current Wild Dunes HOA, regime fee, and insurance prices for various complexes in Wild Dunes.  Numbers changed from Beach Club to Ocean Club so make sure to revisit a page if you need current information.

To search regime information simply click on the Charleston’s Beach Communities tab,  click Wild Dunes, and then select the area in the scroll down menu you wish to view.  Contact me if you need more specific information.

I’on Reflection

This is one I shot today in the award winning, Mt. Pleasant subdivision, I’on.  I was touring a few homes for a client and decided to bring my camera along because I thought todays cloud pattern would make a nice reflection.   Despite the sky being blue,  I thought this image looked cool as a B&W.

Mountain Trip Getaway

Selfie on the Black Balsam Knob Trail

I just returned from a much-needed break  to the North Carolina Mountains.  I am fortunate to have a place in the Brevard/Asheville area (technically Pisgah Forest) to get away to which is an easy 4 hour drive from Charleston.  I don’t get there as much as I would like, but I try to make it that way whenever possible.  Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Charleston, but the mountains are a nice change of pace offering different scenery and a cooler, less humid, climate.

My trips aren’t all about maxing and relaxing though.  I come from an outdoorsy family so we often spend many of our days hiking trails located in Dupont State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  This trip included hikes on the Daniel Ridge Loop (Pisgah Forest), Triple Falls (Dupont), and up Black Balsam Knob (Blue Ridge), along with a few others.

These hikes are great for several reasons:  1 – The climbs offer exercise that’s hard to find here in Charleston (we have no hills) 2 – I love outdoor photography and it offers different scenery than here at the coast 3- Just being in the great outdoors exploring around.

Sometimes though the best part of my day is getting home, relaxing my feet, cracking a cold one, and enjoying amazing sunset views off the back deck.  Here is an image I shot on the first day.

After a fun week in the mountains it is back to my tough life in Charleston, SC.

All of the photographs on my site are mine.  More of my work can be found at donniewhitakerphotography –  follow me on Instagram –  visit my facebook page

Sierra NevadeP.S.  Forgot to mention.  It wasn’t all about hikes and relaxing on the back deck.  I finally was able to visit the new Sierra Nevada Brewery in Mills River, NC.  Talk about nice. I was blown away.  The space is huge and built all green.  We enjoyed sampling different beers not found in stores and unbelievalby good appetizers.

Cheers, Donnie

Reflection on the Harbor

We aren’t short of beautiful sunsets here in the Charleston area.  People often ask me my favorites spots and it’s hard to pick because there are so many.  As some of you may know, when I am not busy with real estate I do landscape and outdoor photography.  I love to travel around and explore different spots, but one spot that is sure not to disappoint is Sunrise Park ( aka Melton Peter Demetre Park) on James Island.   The park offers killer panoramic views of Charleston through Mt. Pleasant and all the way to Sullivan’s Island.  You will often see people walking their dogs, enjoying the small sandy beach, kayaking, and fishing, and like me, out with the camera.  Here is one from yesterday that captured a cool reflection from the clouds above….
